Food on the go

You've probably heard of balut, or duck embryo. It's regularly featured in shows such as Fear Factor, where contestants are required to eat all manner of bizarre food. Anyhow, street food here really isn't for the faint of heart (or stomach). But if you're not feeling particularly adventurous, some stalls do serve pretty regular food on the go. This particular food cart sells fish balls, squid balls and kikiam. Fish balls are usually made from the meat of cuttlefish and usually served in skewers. The squid balls are served similarly, and they're both usually dipped in sweet and sour sauce. Sometimes vendors would sell kikiam, which are deep-fried ground pork and vegetables wrapped in bean curd sheets. If you're up for quail eggs, you might wanna get kwek-kwek (or tukneneng) which are quail eggs deep fried in orange batter. I'll take all these over balut any day, thank you very much.

Yes! I've seen balut on TV here too! Kikiam sounds good :D

Me too. Would you believe I've never had balut my entire life? Not even the 'soup!'

You could have registered this for the CDP theme day — the theme was red, which this mobile stall has lots of. Don't forget, the first of every month is CDP theme day. :)

Hi Kaori! Kikiam IS really good. Actually the street food here is really good, even isaw, which are pig intestines. Haha. It's not as horrible as it sounds. It's really quite tasty! Just about the only thing I can't stomach is chicken feet. Just imagining chewing on those things make me shudder.

Hi Ma'am Hilda! I actually DID register it for CDP theme day, then changed my mind hehe. I felt it wasn't too red enough? Oh well. I voted for red pa naman and I wasn't able to join :( I'm glad you think it's okay enough for the red theme day though. That makes me feel better! I'll definitely participate in May's theme day!
